Taseenmeem
Ṭā, Seen, Meem.
Tilka ayatu alkitabi almubeeni
These are verses of the clear Book.
Natloo ʿalayka min nabai moosa wafirʿawna bialhaqqi liqawmin yuminoona
We recite to you from the news of Moses and Pharaoh in truth for a people who believe.
Inna firʿawna ʿala fee alardi wajaʿala ahlaha shiyaʿan yastadʿifu taifatan minhum yuthabbihu abnaahum wayastahyee nisaahum innahu kana mina almufsideena
Indeed, Pharaoh exalted himself in the land and made its people into factions, oppressing a sector among them, slaughtering their [newborn] sons and keeping their females alive. Indeed, he was of the corrupters.
Wanureedu an namunna ʿala allatheena istudʿifoo fee alardi wanajʿalahum aimmatan wanajʿalahumu alwaritheena
And We wanted to confer favor upon those who were oppressed in the land and make them leaders and make them inheritors
Wanumakkina lahum fee alardi wanuriya firʿawna wahamana wajunoodahuma minhum ma kanoo yahtharoona
And establish them in the land and show Pharaoh and [his minister] Hāmān and their soldiers through them that which they had feared.
Waawhayna ila ommi moosa an ardiʿeehi faitha khifti ʿalayhi faalqeehi fee alyammi wala takhafee wala tahzanee inna raddoohu ilayki wajaʿiloohu mina almursaleena
And We inspired to the mother of Moses, "Suckle him; but when you fear for him, cast him into the river and do not fear and do not grieve. Indeed, We will return him to you and will make him [one] of the messengers."
Failtaqatahu alu firʿawna liyakoona lahum ʿaduwwan wahazanan inna firʿawna wahamana wajunoodahuma kanoo khatieena
And the family of Pharaoh picked him up [out of the river] so that he would become to them an enemy and a [cause of] grief. Indeed, Pharaoh and Hāmān and their soldiers were deliberate sinners.
Waqalati imraatu firʿawna qurratu ʿaynin lee walaka la taqtuloohu ʿasa an yanfaʿana aw nattakhithahu waladan wahum la yashʿuroona
And the wife of Pharaoh said, "[He will be] a comfort of the eye [i.e., pleasure] for me and for you. Do not kill him; perhaps he may benefit us, or we may adopt him as a son." And they perceived not.
Waasbaha fuadu ommi moosa farighan in kadat latubdee bihi lawla an rabatna ʿala qalbiha litakoona mina almumineena
And the heart of Moses' mother became empty [of all else]. She was about to disclose [the matter concerning] him had We not bound fast her heart that she would be of the believers.
Waqalat liokhtihi qusseehi fabasurat bihi ʿan junubin wahum la yashʿuroona
And she said to his sister, "Follow him"; so she watched him from a distance while they perceived not.
Waharramna ʿalayhi almaradiʿa min qablu faqalat hal adullukum ʿala ahli baytin yakfuloonahu lakum wahum lahu nasihoona
And We had prevented from him [all] wet nurses before, so she said, "Shall I direct you to a household that will be responsible for him for you while they are to him [for his upbringing] sincere?"
So We restored him to his mother that she might be content and not grieve and that she would know that the promise of Allāh is true. But most of them [i.e., the people] do not know.
Walamma balagha ashuddahu waistawa ataynahu hukman waʿilman wakathalika najzee almuhsineena
And when he attained his full strength and was [mentally] mature, We bestowed upon him judgement and knowledge. And thus do We reward the doers of good.
Wadakhala almadeenata ʿala heeni ghaflatin min ahliha fawajada feeha rajulayni yaqtatilani hatha min sheeʿatihi wahatha min ʿaduwwihi faistaghathahu allathee min sheeʿatihi ʿala allathee min ʿaduwwihi fawakazahu moosa faqada ʿalayhi qala hatha min ʿamali alshshaytani innahu ʿaduwwun mudillun mubeenun
And he entered the city at a time of inattention by its people and found therein two men fighting: one from his faction and one from among his enemy. And the one from his faction called for help to him against the one from his enemy, so Moses struck him and [unintentionally] killed him. [Moses] said, "This is from the work of Satan. Indeed, he is a manifest, misleading enemy."
Qala rabbi innee thalamtu nafsee faighfir lee faghafara lahu innahu huwa alghafooru alrraheemu
He said, "My Lord, indeed I have wronged myself, so forgive me," and He forgave him. Indeed, He is the Forgiving, the Merciful.
Qala rabbi bima anʿamta ʿalayya falan akoona thaheeran lilmujrimeena
He said, "My Lord, for the favor You bestowed upon me, I will never be an assistant to the criminals."
Faasbaha fee almadeenati khaifan yataraqqabu faitha allathee istansarahu bialamsi yastasrikhuhu qala lahu moosa innaka laghawiyyun mubeenun
And he became inside the city fearful and anticipating [exposure], when suddenly the one who sought his help the previous day cried out to him [once again]. Moses said to him, "Indeed, you are an evident, [persistent] deviator."
Falamma an arada an yabtisha biallathee huwa ʿaduwwun lahuma qala ya moosa atureedu an taqtulanee kama qatalta nafsan bialamsi in tureedu illa an takoona jabbaran fee alardi wama tureedu an takoona mina almusliheena
And when he wanted to strike the one who was an enemy to both of them, he said, "O Moses, do you intend to kill me as you killed someone yesterday? You only want to be a tyrant in the land and do not want to be of the amenders."
Wajaa rajulun min aqsa almadeenati yasʿa qala ya moosa inna almalaa yatamiroona bika liyaqtulooka faokhruj innee laka mina alnnasiheena
And a man came from the farthest end of the city, running. He said, "O Moses, indeed the eminent ones are conferring over you [intending] to kill you, so leave [the city]; indeed, I am to you of the sincere advisors."
Fakharaja minha khaifan yataraqqabu qala rabbi najjinee mina alqawmi alththalimeena
So he left it, fearful and anticipating [apprehension]. He said, "My Lord, save me from the wrongdoing people."
Walamma tawajjaha tilqaa madyana qala ʿasa rabbee an yahdiyanee sawaa alssabeeli
And when he directed himself toward Madyan, he said, "Perhaps my Lord will guide me to the sound way."
Walamma warada maa madyana wajada ʿalayhi ommatan mina alnnasi yasqoona wawajada min doonihimu imraatayni tathoodani qala ma khatbukuma qalata la nasqee hatta yusdira alrriʿao waaboona shaykhun kabeerun
And when he came to the water [i.e., well] of Madyan, he found there a crowd of people watering [their flocks], and he found aside from them two women holding back [their flocks]. He said, "What is your circumstance?" They said, "We do not water until the shepherds dispatch [their flocks]; and our father is an old man."
Fasaqa lahuma thumma tawalla ila alththilli faqala rabbi innee lima anzalta ilayya min khayrin faqeerun
So he watered [their flocks] for them; then he went back to the shade and said, "My Lord, indeed I am, for whatever good You would send down to me, in need."
Fajaathu ihdahuma tamshee ʿala istihyain qalat inna abee yadʿooka liyajziyaka ajra ma saqayta lana falamma jaahu waqassa ʿalayhi alqasasa qala la takhaf najawta mina alqawmi alththalimeena
Then one of the two women came to him walking with shyness. She said, "Indeed, my father invites you that he may reward you for having watered for us." So when he came to him and related to him the story, he said, "Fear not. You have escaped from the wrongdoing people."
Qalat ihdahuma ya abati istajirhu inna khayra mani istajarta alqawiyyu alameenu
One of the women said, "O my father, hire him. Indeed, the best one you can hire is the strong and the trustworthy."
Qala innee oreedu an onkihaka ihda ibnatayya hatayni ʿala an tajuranee thamaniya hijajin fain atmamta ʿashran famin ʿindika wama oreedu an ashuqqa ʿalayka satajidunee in shaa Allahu mina alssaliheena
He said, "Indeed, I wish to wed you one of these, my two daughters, on [the condition] that you serve me for eight years; but if you complete ten, it will be [as a favor] from you. And I do not wish to put you in difficulty. You will find me, if Allāh wills, from among the righteous."
Qala thalika baynee wabaynaka ayyama alajalayni qadaytu fala ʿudwana ʿalayya waAllahu ʿala ma naqoolu wakeelun
[Moses] said, "That is [established] between me and you. Whichever of the two terms I complete - there is no injustice to me, and Allāh, over what we say, is Witness."
Falamma qada moosaalajala wasara biahlihi anasa min janibi alttoori naran qala liahlihi omkuthoo innee anastu naran laʿallee ateekum minha bikhabarin aw jathwatin mina alnnari laʿallakum tastaloona
And when Moses had completed the term and was traveling with his family, he perceived from the direction of the mount a fire. He said to his family, "Stay here; indeed, I have perceived a fire. Perhaps I will bring you from there [some] information or burning wood from the fire that you may warm yourselves."
Falamma ataha noodiya min shatii alwadi alaymani fee albuqʿati almubarakati mina alshshajarati an ya moosa innee ana Allahu rabbu alʿalameena
But when he came to it, he was called from the right side of the valley in a blessed spot - from the tree, "O Moses, indeed I am Allāh, Lord of the worlds."
Waan alqi ʿasaka falamma raaha tahtazzu kaannaha jannun walla mudbiran walam yuʿaqqib ya moosa aqbil wala takhaf innaka mina alamineena
And [he was told], "Throw down your staff." But when he saw it writhing as if it was a snake, he turned in flight and did not return. [Allāh said], "O Moses, approach and fear not. Indeed, you are of the secure.
Osluk yadaka fee jaybika takhruj baydaa min ghayri sooin waodmum ilayka janahaka mina alrrahbi fathanika burhanani min rabbika ila firʿawna wamalaihi innahum kanoo qawman fasiqeena
Insert your hand into the opening of your garment; it will come out white, without disease. And draw in your arm close to you [as prevention] from fear, for those are two proofs from your Lord to Pharaoh and his establishment. Indeed, they have been a people defiantly disobedient."
Qala rabbi innee qataltu minhum nafsan faakhafu an yaqtulooni
He said, "My Lord, indeed I killed from among them someone, and I fear they will kill me.
Waakhee haroonu huwa afsahu minnee lisanan faarsilhu maʿiya ridan yusaddiqunee innee akhafu an yukaththibooni
And my brother Aaron is more fluent than me in tongue, so send him with me as support, verifying me. Indeed, I fear that they will deny me."
Qala sanashuddu ʿadudaka biakheeka wanajʿalu lakuma sultanan fala yasiloona ilaykuma biayatina antuma wamani ittabaʿakuma alghaliboona
[Allāh] said, "We will strengthen your arm through your brother and grant you both supremacy so they will not reach you. [It will be] through Our signs; you and those who follow you will be the predominant."
Falamma jaahum moosa biayatina bayyinatin qaloo ma hatha illa sihrun muftaran wama samiʿna bihatha fee abaina alawwaleena
But when Moses came to them with Our signs as clear evidences, they said, "This is not except invented magic, and we have not heard of this [religion] among our forefathers."
Waqala moosa rabbee aʿlamu biman jaa bialhuda min ʿindihi waman takoonu lahu ʿaqibatu alddari innahu la yuflihu alththalimoona
And Moses said, "My Lord is more knowing [than we or you] of who has come with guidance from Him and to whom will be succession in the home. Indeed, wrongdoers do not succeed."
Waqala firʿawnu ya ayyuha almalao ma ʿalimtu lakum min ilahin ghayree faawqid lee ya hamanu ʿala altteeni faijʿal lee sarhan laʿallee attaliʿu ila ilahi moosa wainnee laathunnuhu mina alkathibeena
And Pharaoh said, "O eminent ones, I have not known you to have a god other than me. Then ignite for me, O Hāmān, [a fire] upon the clay and make for me a tower that I may look at the God of Moses. And indeed, I do think he is among the liars."
Waistakbara huwa wajunooduhu fee alardi bighayri alhaqqi wathannoo annahum ilayna la yurjaʿoona
And he was arrogant, he and his soldiers, in the land, without right, and they thought that they would not be returned to Us.
Faakhathnahu wajunoodahu fanabathnahum fee alyammi faonthur kayfa kana ʿaqibatu alththalimeena
So We took him and his soldiers and threw them into the sea. So see how was the end of the wrongdoers.
Wajaʿalnahum aimmatan yadʿoona ila alnnari wayawma alqiyamati la yunsaroona
And We made them leaders inviting to the Fire, and on the Day of Resurrection they will not be helped.
Waatbaʿnahum fee hathihi alddunya laʿnatan wayawma alqiyamati hum mina almaqbooheena
And We caused to overtake them in this world a curse, and on the Day of Resurrection they will be of the despised.
And We gave Moses the Scripture, after We had destroyed the former generations, as enlightenment for the people and guidance and mercy that they might be reminded.
Wama kunta bijanibi algharbiyyi ith qadayna ila moosa alamra wama kunta mina alshshahideena
And you, [O Muḥammad], were not on the western side [of the mount] when We revealed to Moses the command, and you were not among the witnesses [to that].
Walakinna anshana quroonan fatatawala ʿalayhimu alʿumuru wama kunta thawiyan fee ahli madyana tatloo ʿalayhim ayatina walakinna kunna mursileena
But We produced [many] generations [after Moses], and prolonged was their duration. And you were not a resident among the people of Madyan, reciting to them Our verses, but We were senders [of this message].
Wama kunta bijanibi alttoori ith nadayna walakin rahmatan min rabbika litunthira qawman ma atahum min natheerin min qablika laʿallahum yatathakkaroona
And you were not at the side of the mount when We called [Moses] but [were sent] as a mercy from your Lord to warn a people to whom no warner had come before you that they might be reminded.
Walawla an tuseebahum museebatun bima qaddamat aydeehim fayaqooloo rabbana lawla arsalta ilayna rasoolan fanattabiʿa ayatika wanakoona mina almumineena
And if not that a disaster should strike them for what their hands put forth [of sins] and they would say, "Our Lord, why did You not send us a messenger so we could have followed Your verses and been among the believers?"...
Falamma jaahumu alhaqqu min ʿindina qaloo lawla ootiya mithla ma ootiya moosa awalam yakfuroo bima ootiya moosa min qablu qaloo sihrani tathahara waqaloo inna bikullin kafiroona
But when the truth came to them from Us, they said, "Why was he not given like that which was given to Moses?" Did they not disbelieve in that which was given to Moses before? They said, "[They are but] two works of magic supporting each other, and indeed we are, in both, disbelievers."
Qul fatoo bikitabin min ʿindi Allahi huwa ahda minhuma attabiʿhu in kuntum sadiqeena
Say, "Then bring a scripture from Allāh which is more guiding than either of them that I may follow it, if you should be truthful."
Fain lam yastajeeboo laka faiʿlam annama yattabiʿoona ahwaahum waman adallu mimmani ittabaʿa hawahu bighayri hudan mina Allahi inna Allaha la yahdee alqawma alththalimeena
But if they do not respond to you - then know that they only follow their [own] desires. And who is more astray than one who follows his desire without guidance from Allāh? Indeed, Allāh does not guide the wrongdoing people.
Walaqad wassalna lahumu alqawla laʿallahum yatathakkaroona
And We have [repeatedly] conveyed to them the word [i.e., the Qur’ān] that they might be reminded.
Allatheena ataynahumu alkitaba min qablihi hum bihi yuminoona
Those to whom We gave the Scripture before it - they are believers in it.
Waitha yutla ʿalayhim qaloo amanna bihi innahu alhaqqu min rabbina inna kunna min qablihi muslimeena
And when it is recited to them, they say, "We have believed in it; indeed, it is the truth from our Lord. Indeed we were, [even] before it, Muslims [i.e., submitting to Allāh]."
Olaika yutawna ajrahum marratayni bima sabaroo wayadraoona bialhasanati alssayyiata wamimma razaqnahum yunfiqoona
Those will be given their reward twice for what they patiently endured and [because] they avert evil through good, and from what We have provided them they spend.
Waitha samiʿoo allaghwa aʿradoo ʿanhu waqaloo lana aʿmaluna walakum aʿmalukum salamun ʿalaykum la nabtaghee aljahileena
And when they hear ill speech, they turn away from it and say, "For us are our deeds, and for you are your deeds. Peace will be upon you; we seek not the ignorant."
Innaka la tahdee man ahbabta walakinna Allaha yahdee man yashao wahuwa aʿlamu bialmuhtadeena
Indeed, [O Muḥammad], you do not guide whom you like, but Allāh guides whom He wills. And He is most knowing of the [rightly] guided.
Waqaloo in nattabiʿi alhuda maʿaka nutakhattaf min ardina awalam numakkin lahum haraman aminan yujba ilayhi thamaratu kulli shayin rizqan min ladunna walakinna aktharahum la yaʿlamoona
And they [i.e., the Quraysh] say, "If we were to follow the guidance with you, we would be swept from our land." Have We not established for them a safe sanctuary to which are brought the fruits of all things as provision from Us? But most of them do not know.
Wakam ahlakna min qaryatin batirat maʿeeshataha fatilka masakinuhum lam tuskan min baʿdihim illa qaleelan wakunna nahnu alwaritheena
And how many a city have We destroyed that was insolent in its [way of] living, and those are their dwellings which have not been inhabited after them except briefly. And it is We who were the inheritors.
Wama kana rabbuka muhlika alqura hatta yabʿatha fee ommiha rasoolan yatloo ʿalayhim ayatina wama kunna muhlikee alqura illa waahluha thalimoona
And never would your Lord have destroyed the cities until He had sent to their mother [i.e., principal city] a messenger reciting to them Our verses. And We would not destroy the cities except while their people were wrongdoers.
Wama ooteetum min shayin famataʿu alhayati alddunya wazeenatuha wama ʿinda Allahi khayrun waabqa afala taʿqiloona
And whatever thing you [people] have been given - it is [only for] the enjoyment of worldly life and its adornment. And what is with Allāh is better and more lasting; so will you not use reason?
Afaman waʿadnahu waʿdan hasanan fahuwa laqeehi kaman mattaʿnahu mataʿa alhayati alddunya thumma huwa yawma alqiyamati mina almuhdareena
Then is he whom We have promised a good promise which he will meet [i.e., obtain] like he for whom We provided enjoyment of worldly life [but] then he is, on the Day of Resurrection, among those presented [for punishment in Hell]?
Wayawma yunadeehim fayaqoolu ayna shurakaiya allatheena kuntum tazʿumoona
And [warn of] the Day He will call them and say, "Where are My 'partners' which you used to claim?"
Qala allatheena haqqa ʿalayhimu alqawlu rabbana haolai allatheena aghwayna aghwaynahum kama ghawayna tabarrana ilayka ma kanoo iyyana yaʿbudoona
Those upon whom the word will have come into effect will say, "Our Lord, these are the ones we led to error. We led them to error just as we were in error. We declare our disassociation [from them] to You. They did not used to worship [i.e., obey] us."
Waqeela odʿoo shurakaakum fadaʿawhum falam yastajeeboo lahum waraawoo alʿathaba law annahum kanoo yahtadoona
And it will be said, "Invoke your 'partners,'" and they will invoke them; but they will not respond to them, and they will see the punishment. If only they had followed guidance!
Wayawma yunadeehim fayaqoolu matha ajabtumu almursaleena
And [mention] the Day He will call them and say, "What did you answer the messengers?"
Faʿamiyat ʿalayhimu alanbao yawmaithin fahum la yatasaaloona
But the information will be unapparent to them that Day, so they will not [be able to] ask one another.
Faamma man taba waamana waʿamila salihan faʿasa an yakoona mina almufliheena
But as for one who had repented, believed, and done righteousness, it is expected [i.e., promised by Allāh] that he will be among the successful.
Warabbuka yakhluqu ma yashao wayakhtaru ma kana lahumu alkhiyaratu subhana Allahi wataʿala ʿamma yushrikoona
And your Lord creates what He wills and chooses; not for them was the choice. Exalted is Allāh and high above what they associate with Him.
Warabbuka yaʿlamu ma tukinnu sudooruhum wama yuʿlinoona
And your Lord knows what their breasts conceal and what they declare.
Wahuwa Allahu la ilaha illa huwa lahu alhamdu fee aloola waalakhirati walahu alhukmu wailayhi turjaʿoona
And He is Allāh; there is no deity except Him. To Him is [due all] praise in the first [life] and the Hereafter. And His is the [final] decision, and to Him you will be returned.
Qul araaytum in jaʿala Allahu ʿalaykumu allayla sarmadan ila yawmi alqiyamati man ilahun ghayru Allahi yateekum bidiyain afala tasmaʿoona
Say, "Have you considered: if Allāh should make for you the night continuous until the Day of Resurrection, what deity other than Allāh could bring you light? Then will you not hear?"
Qul araaytum in jaʿala Allahu ʿalaykumu alnnahara sarmadan ila yawmi alqiyamati man ilahun ghayru Allahi yateekum bilaylin taskunoona feehi afala tubsiroona
Say, "Have you considered: if Allāh should make for you the day continuous until the Day of Resurrection, what deity other than Allāh could bring you a night in which you may rest? Then will you not see?"
Wamin rahmatihi jaʿala lakumu allayla waalnnahara litaskunoo feehi walitabtaghoo min fadlihi walaʿallakum tashkuroona
And out of His mercy He made for you the night and the day that you may rest therein and [by day] seek from His bounty and [that] perhaps you will be grateful.
Wayawma yunadeehim fayaqoolu ayna shurakaiya allatheena kuntum tazʿumoona
And [warn of] the Day He will call them and say, "Where are My 'partners' which you used to claim?"
Wanazaʿna min kulli ommatin shaheedan faqulna hatoo burhanakum faʿalimoo anna alhaqqa lillahi wadalla ʿanhum ma kanoo yaftaroona
And We will extract from every nation a witness and say, "Produce your proof," and they will know that the truth belongs to Allāh, and lost from them is that which they used to invent.
Inna qaroona kana min qawmi moosa fabagha ʿalayhim waataynahu mina alkunoozi ma inna mafatihahu latanooo bialʿusbati olee alquwwati ith qala lahu qawmuhu la tafrah inna Allaha la yuhibbu alfariheena
Indeed, Qārūn was from the people of Moses, but he tyrannized them. And We gave him of treasures whose keys would burden a band of strong men; thereupon his people said to him, "Do not exult. Indeed, Allāh does not like the exultant.
Waibtaghi feema ataka Allahu alddara alakhirata wala tansa naseebaka mina alddunya waahsin kama ahsana Allahu ilayka wala tabghi alfasada fee alardi inna Allaha la yuhibbu almufsideena
But seek, through that which Allāh has given you, the home of the Hereafter; and [yet], do not forget your share of the world. And do good as Allāh has done good to you. And desire not corruption in the land. Indeed, Allāh does not like corrupters."
Qala innama ooteetuhu ʿala ʿilmin ʿindee awalam yaʿlam anna Allaha qad ahlaka min qablihi mina alqurooni man huwa ashaddu minhu quwwatan waaktharu jamʿan wala yusalu ʿan thunoobihimu almujrimoona
He said, "I was only given it because of knowledge I have." Did he not know that Allāh had destroyed before him of generations those who were greater than him in power and greater in accumulation [of wealth]? But the criminals, about their sins, will not be asked.
Fakharaja ʿala qawmihi fee zeenatihi qala allatheena yureedoona alhayata alddunya ya layta lana mithla ma ootiya qaroonu innahu lathoo haththin ʿatheemin
So he came out before his people in his adornment. Those who desired the worldly life said, "Oh, would that we had like what was given to Qārūn. Indeed, he is one of great fortune."
Waqala allatheena ootoo alʿilma waylakum thawabu Allahi khayrun liman amana waʿamila salihan wala yulaqqaha illa alssabiroona
But those who had been given knowledge said, "Woe to you! The reward of Allāh is better for he who believes and does righteousness. And none are granted it except the patient."
Fakhasafna bihi wabidarihi alarda fama kana lahu min fiatin yansuroonahu min dooni Allahi wama kana mina almuntasireena
And We caused the earth to swallow him and his home. And there was for him no company to aid him other than Allāh, nor was he of those who [could] defend themselves.
Waasbaha allatheena tamannaw makanahu bialamsi yaqooloona waykaanna Allaha yabsutu alrrizqa liman yashao min ʿibadihi wayaqdiru lawla an manna Allahu ʿalayna lakhasafa bina waykaannahu la yuflihu alkafiroona
And those who had wished for his position the previous day began to say, "Oh, how Allāh extends provision to whom He wills of His servants and restricts it! If not that Allāh had conferred favor on us, He would have caused it to swallow us. Oh, how the disbelievers do not succeed!"
Tilka alddaru alakhiratu najʿaluha lillatheena la yureedoona ʿuluwwan fee alardi wala fasadan waalʿaqibatu lilmuttaqeena
That home of the Hereafter We assign to those who do not desire exaltedness upon the earth or corruption. And the [best] outcome is for the righteous.
Man jaa bialhasanati falahu khayrun minha waman jaa bialssayyiati fala yujza allatheena ʿamiloo alssayyiati illa ma kanoo yaʿmaloona
Whoever comes [on the Day of Judgement] with a good deed will have better than it; and whoever comes with an evil deed - then those who did evil deeds will not be recompensed except [as much as] what they used to do.
Inna allathee farada ʿalayka alqurana laradduka ila maʿadin qul rabbee aʿlamu man jaa bialhuda waman huwa fee dalalin mubeenin
Indeed, [O Muḥammad], He who imposed upon you the Qur’ān will take you back to a place of return. Say, "My Lord is most knowing of who brings guidance and who is in clear error."
Wama kunta tarjoo an yulqa ilayka alkitabu illa rahmatan min rabbika fala takoonanna thaheeran lilkafireena
And you were not expecting that the Book would be conveyed to you, but [it is] a mercy from your Lord. So do not be an assistant to the disbelievers.
Wala yasuddunnaka ʿan ayati Allahi baʿda ith onzilat ilayka waodʿu ila rabbika wala takoonanna mina almushrikeena
And never let them avert you from the verses of Allāh after they have been revealed to you. And invite [people] to your Lord. And never be of those who associate others with Allāh.
Wala tadʿu maʿa Allahi ilahan akhara la ilaha illa huwa kullu shayin halikun illa wajhahu lahu alhukmu wailayhi turjaʿoona
And do not invoke with Allāh another deity. There is no deity except Him. Everything will be destroyed except His Face. His is the judgement, and to Him you will be returned.

About this surah
Name
The Surah takes its name from verse 25 in which the word Al-Qasas occurs. Lexically, qasas means to relate events in their proper sequence. Thus, from the viewpoint of the meaning too, this word can be a suitable title for this Surah, for in it the detailed story of the Prophet Moses has been related.
Period of Revelation
As already mentioned in the introduction to Surah An Naml, according to Ibn Abbas and Jabir bin Zaid, Surahs Ash-Shu\`araa', An-Naml and Al- Qasas were sent down one after the other. The language, style and theme show that the period of the revelation of these three Surahs are nearly the same. Another reason for their close resemblance is that the different parts of the Prophet Moses stories as mentioned in these surahs together make up a complete picture. In Surah Ash Shu\`araa', excusing himself for not accepting the office of Prophethood the Prophet Moses submits, "The people of Pharaoh have the charge of a crime against me; therefore, I fear that they will put me to death." Then, when lie goes before Pharaoh, the latter says, "Did we not bring you up as a child in our house? You lived quite a few years of your life among us, and then you did what you did." Nothing more of this has been mentioned there, but in this Surah the other details have been supplied. Similarly, in Surah An-Naml the story starts abruptly from the time when the Prophet Moses was journeying with his family and suddenly saw a fire at a distance. In that Surah nothing has been said about the nature of his journey, or the place he was coming from, or his destination, but this Surah supplies all the necessary details. Thus, the three Surahs read combined complete the story of the Prophet Moses (Allah's peace be upon him).
Theme and Topics
The main theme is to remove the doubts and objections that were being raised against the Prophethood of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (upon whom be Allah's peace and blessings) and to invalidate the excuses which were being offered for not believing in him.
For this purpose, first the story of the Prophet Moses has been related, which, by analogy with the period of revelation, impresses the following points in the listeners mind automatically:
First, Allah provides the means and motives of whatever He wills to do, in imperceptible ways. Thus, Allah so arranged things that the child through whom Pharaoh had to be removed from power, was bred and brought up in his own house, and he could not know whom he was fostering. Who can then fight God and frustrate Him by his machinations.
Secondly, Prophethood is not granted to a person amid festivities by issuing a proclamation from the earth and heavens. You wonder how Muhammad (upon whom be Allah's peace) has been blessed with Prophethood unexpectedly, all of a sudden, but Moses whom you yourselves acknowledge as a Prophet (v. 48) had also become a Prophet unexpectedly, while on a journey, and nobody had known what event had occurred in the desolation at the foot of Mt. Sinai. Moses himself did not know beforehand that he was going to be blessed with Prophethood. He, in fact, had gone to bring a piece of the fire but had returned with the gift of Prophethood.
Thirdly, the person from whom Allah wants to take some service comes out without any army and armor and without an apparent helper or force at his back, yet he puts to rout much stronger and better equipped opponents. The contrast that existed between the strengths of Moses (peace be upon him) and Pharaoh was much more prominent and glaring than that which existed between Muhammad (peace be upon him) and the Quraish; yet the world knows who had come out victorious in the end and who had been routed.
Fourthly, you refer to Moses again and again and say, "Why has Muhammad not been given the same which was given to Moses? i. e. miracles of the staff, the shining hand, etc. as if to suggest that you would readily believe only if you were shown the kind of the miracles that were shown by Moses to Pharaoh. But do you know what sort of response was made by those who were shown those miracles? They had not believed even after seeing the miracles, and had only said, "This is magic", for they were involved in stubbornness and hostility to the Truth. The same malady afflicts you today. Will you believe only when you are slowly the same kind of miracles? Then, do you know what fate the disbelievers had met even after seeing the miracles? They were annihilated by Allah. Do you now wish to meet the same doom by asking for the miracles in your obstinacy?
These were the things which were automatically impressed in the mind of every listener who heard this story in the pagan environment of Makkah, for a similar conflict was going on at that time between the Holy Prophet and disbelievers of Makkah as had already taken place between the Prophet Moses and Pharaoh before. This was the background against which the story of the Prophet Moses was narrated so that a perfect analogy was established automatically in every detail between the conditions prevailing then in Makkah and those existing in the time of the Prophet Moses. Then, from verse 43 onward the discourse turns to the real theme.
In the first place, the narration of a two thousand year old historical event by the Holy Prophet with such accuracy and detail, is presented as a proof of his Prophethood although he was un-lettered and the people of his city and clan knew full well that he had no access to any source of such information as they could point out.
Then the disbelievers of Makkah have been warned and put to shame for an event that occurred in those very days. Some Christians had come to Makkah and embraced Islam when they heard the Qur'an from the Holy Prophet. Instead of learning any lesson from this the Makkans were so upset at this that their leader, Abu Jahl, disgraced those people publicly.
In conclusion, the excuse that the disbelievers put forward for not believing in the Holy Prophet has been dealt with. What they feared was this:"If we give up the polytheistic creed of the Arabs and accept the doctrine of Tauhid instead, this will put an end to our supremacy in the religious, political and economic fields, which, in turn, will destroy our position of the most influential tribe of Arabia and we shall be left with no refuge anywhere in the land." As this was the real motive of the chiefs of the Quraish for their antagonism towards the Truth, and their doubts and objections were only the pretenses, which they invented to deceive the common people, Allah has dealt with these fully till the end of the Surah, considered each aspect of these in a wise manner and offered the remedy for their basic ailment due to which those people judged the Truth and falsehood only from the viewpoint of their worldly interests.
